Line Blind Valve Classification and Introduction

01 / 16, 2024

Line blind valves are classified by their design and are also known by different names, including:

Spectacle blinds

Named for their “figure eight” or “glasses” shape, these valves are ideal for switching between open and closed positions. They can be made from a single piece of metal or two separate pieces.

Cam set blind valves

Used for applications that require a high degree of accuracy, these valves use rectangular spectacle flanges to protect the open and closed positions.

Line blanks

The solid side of a spectacle blind is also known as a line blank, skillet blind, paddle blank, paddle blind, or spade.

Ring spacers(Another type of line blind)

Line blind valves are used to isolate sections of a pipeline, preventing the flow of fluids or gases. They are essential for maintenance, repair, and safety, and are particularly valuable in industries where a safe and uncontaminated process environment is important.

Line blinding is the process of blocking off or isolating a pipeline, duct, or process flow. This is typically done to ensure the safety of maintenance personnel and operators, and to avoid product contamination.
